This software is a lightweight clone of Emacs that is free and open source.
In addition to the familiar feel of Emacs, Zile has all the basic editing features that are found in Emacs. It is also 8-bit clean, however, at present, Unicode support is not available. The number of editing windows and buffers is unlimited, subject to available memory and screen space. Other features such as registers, minibuffer completion, and auto fill are also available.
The function and variable names in Zile are identical to those in Emacs, except for those that include the word "emacs" which is replaced with "zile". This makes it easy for Emacs users to switch to Zile without having to relearn many new functions.
However, Zile is a lightweight program, typically incorporating all these features into a code that's only about 130Kb in size. Which makes it ideal for users who are looking for a lightweight alternative to Emacs.
