This software is a build system designed specifically for generating translations for the www.gnu.org website. It provides an efficient and effective method for translating content across multiple languages, helping to make the site accessible to a diverse global audience.
The primary goal of GNUN is to simplify the maintenance of gnu.org translations, and to prevent translations from becoming seriously outdated when a particular team becomes inactive. This handy software is currently designed to work best with the layout and structure of the GNU Project's website, and is therefore somewhat less well-suited to other sites.
The essential task behind GNUN is its ability to 'gettextize' the English HTML articles to convert them into PO templates (.pot) and then maintain translations in PO format (.po). This works in a similar fashion to the translation of programs or manuals. As a result, any changes to the original articles will be merged automatically, and the .html translations will be quickly refreshed. It is extremely user-friendly to check which translations of a particular language may be out of date.
GNUN has been under thorough testing for well over a year and has become the official method for maintaining gnu.org translations since June. For the time being, GNUnited Nations is exclusively tied to the GNU Project's website layout and structure, meaning that it will not work effectively for other sites. The software can be accessed under the GNU General Public License, version 3 or later, and the manual is licensed under the GNU Free Documentation License, version 1.3 or later.
