Goodgoat is a user-friendly desktop software that can either be installed on the hard drive or used directly from a bootable CD.
Originally created as an OS for a low-cost computer, Goodgoat has become a useful option for many people. The software was specifically designed with a hand-picked selection of the best breed applications and an easy-to-use desktop - starting with xfce4, which is light-weight and user-friendly.
Users will also find Firefox, Evolution for email, OpenOffice, and many other applications with the option to use a video and audio player, as well as auto-configuration of the network and x windows setup. The software also caters to system administrators with the addition of iscsi server and client tools. Running /etc/init.d/iscsi-target start will allow you to share hd0.
Goodgoat also includes qemu which is an excellent option for those who prefer a poor man's VMware, except it actually works better. Installing Goodgoat is a breeze. All you need to do is install the CD version (iso file) and use the installer in the prefs menu. Although some parts of the installer may take a couple of minutes, as long as the Firefox circle is spinning, you've just got to wait until it finishes. In the meantime, you can open a new tab or a new window and browse the web or play one of the many games included.
This software is incredibly fast and all that you need is easily accessible. It operates well on older computers and doesn't require a lot of memory. Goodgoat also works with desktops, laptops, and Wi-Fi. And, if you like Gentoo all you need to do is install Goodgoat and run su -; emerge sync from the xterm and you have a Gentoo system!
The creator also added a few additional applications that are not included with Gentoo and installed newer applications than Gentoo supports by default. The installation process is extremely simple and easy to use. In conclusion, Goodgoat is definitely worth a try!
