Grave is a tool that offers MP3 play-list editing and serves as an interface for the Sensory Science RaveMP MP2000 Digital Media Player. It facilitates efficient and easy control of the player and its playback.
One of the most distinctive features of Grave is its ability to interact with the RaveMP MP3 player. The software allows you to upload and download single files or complete playlists from the player. You can easily browse through the files that are stored on the player and download them onto your PC. Similarly, you can upload a complete play-list or select individual files from the file browser.
It's worth noting that Grave works smoothly even without the RaveMP media player. Some of the key features include the ability to select MP3 files in a file browser and add them to an existing play-list or create a new one from scratch. You can remove, move, or arrange songs in the play-list in various ways such as at the beginning or end of the playlist. Additionally, if available, the ID3 tag of the MP3 file will be displayed when you select the file, and you can play single songs with an external MP3 player.
To use Grave, you need to have a RaveMP player, preferably one with at least 64MB of base memory. You also need a PC with a bidirectional LPT port. If you have a recent PC, you may need to go into the BIOS setup and select "EPP" or "ECP" mode before the software can work. The LPT port must be set to 0x378, or you will need to edit the source-file ravemp.c.
However, there are some limitations to using the software. For example, repeated uploads and removals of files to and from the player may cause the player to leak memory. In such cases, an "Initialize" using the windows software can help clean up lost blocks. Additionally, read errors may occur during the download process, especially for big files. In these cases, the files may either become larger or smaller, and the error message is "Download Failure: Bad Block number 65535 [Outside Range 6-4095]." Files containing spaces in the name may not play using XMMS, and players with only 32MB of memory may not work correctly.
Overall, Grave is a reliable and useful software for managing and creating MP3 playlists, and its interaction with the RaveMP player is a major plus. However, some limitations may hinder its usability, depending on your specific needs and configuration.
