GTK-server allows GTK 1.x and 2.x apps to be accessed by shellscripts and interpreted languages.
GTK-server is simple to use. When you invoke the script, it sets up a pipe or a TCP/UDP connection and prints the GTK call in plain text to the pipe or socket. Once this is done, the GTK-server sends information back to the program or script.
What are the advantages of using GTK-server? Apart from not having to learn C or hack the source of existing programming languages, you'll have high flexibility in creating GUI's. With GTK-server, you'll be able to extend the 'gtk-server.cfg' file by yourself and have access to both GTK 1.x and 2.x. You won't be limited to dialogs when creating GUI's, either.
Finally, GTK-server also comes with a convenient GTK test tool that is easy to learn, making GTK programming more accessible for enthusiasts of all skill levels.
