GtkTerm is a software that duplicates the features of Hyperterminal.
As an electronician, I created GtkTerm because there was no simple program available for easy dialog on a serial port. In this software, you will find many useful features, including a serial port terminal window, serial port setup options such as speed, parity, bits, stopbits, and flow control, and the ability to use the termios API.
Additionally, you can send a file, although only RAW data is supported, and you can save data in RAW format. Other features include end-of-line delay while sending a file and special character wait before the next line during transmission. You can toggle control lines manually such as DTR, CTS, and send breaks, while also reading the state of control lines like RTS, CD, DSR, and RI.
Moreover, you can view hexadecimal data and even send raw hexadecimal characters. Finally, you can define macros, which are keyboard shortcuts that can save you time during use.
One of the system requirements for using GtkTerm is the GTK+ version 2.2.x. In the latest release, the software now supports VTxxx commands using the VTE terminal widget. Additionally, some bugfixes have been made, and support for an auto CR/LF mode has been added.
Overall, GtkTerm is a reliable and straightforward software that provides essential functionalities for those who need to communicate through a serial link.
