GTKWave is a waveform viewing software that is designed specifically for Verilog and VHDL simulations. It provides efficient and flexible visualization capabilities for waveform data analysis.
The installation of GTKWave is quick and easy. Simply follow these steps: 1) Type ./configure 2) make 3) make install (as root). Additionally, make sure you copy the .gtkwaverc file to your home directory or VCD project directory as it contains the preferences for optimal configuration.
It's important to note that Ver Structural Verilog Compiler AET files are no longer supported, and have been replaced by LXT. The AMULET group will take over maintenance of the viewer with immediate effect.
The latest version of GTKWave contains a range of useful updates and improvements, including added support for optional sideband .aetinfo files, improved handling of x vs X (z vs Z) at signal boundaries, and a new color scheme in which red marks X data similar to how it marks U for VHDL.
Additional features of the latest release include the fixing of a long-standing bug in linear lxts that only occurs when integers are present in the lxt dump, and the fixing of shift-clicking when use_standard_clicking is active so that shift-clicks past the last trace when the signal window isn't fully populated count as a shift-click on the last trace. Overall, GTKWave is an excellent waveform viewer that any software engineer can benefit from.
