Gv4l is a graphical user interface that enables users to record video and audio streams via V4L (Video for Linux) functions using transcode software.
To use Gv4l, you'll need to have at least transcode-0.6.7 installed. It's recommended that you also have xawtv installed since transcode uses the xawtv configuration file ($HOME/.xawtv) to obtain channel, brightness, contrast, and other information.
Here are the basic requirements for Gv4l:
- transcode >= 0.6.7
- xawtv
Some of the release's new features for Gv4l include an updated GUI, new links, and action buttons that expand and fill the toolbar. There's also support for transcode 0.6.13+, an applied UTF-8 patch submitted by Sebastian Voecking, and other behind-the-scenes improvements.
The Gv4l team has made some changes while working on the project, including recreating the program with glade and executing gettextize and supporting stuff. Additionally, they've updated the Makefile.am by adding m4 to SUBDIRS, included ACLOCAL_AMFLAGS as a new variable, and added config.rpath mkinstalldirs to EXTRA_DIST in configure.in. They've also changed the way .xawtv is read, eliminating obsolete chunks so that the code is now more efficient.
