This software update is designed for the HARMONi iMac processor/FireWire upgrade on Mac OS 8.6 and Mac OS 9.0.x operating systems. It delivers the FireWire driver software that enables smooth functioning of the hardware.
Some of the benefits of FireWire include fast real-time transfer, plug-and-play, hot-swapping, a higher-speed growth path, and easy-to-use connectors and cables. Currently, various third parties have FireWire products available, including printers, digital video cameras, digital video decks, scanners, still image cameras, mass storage devices, and PCI cards that allow connection to a computer. These products can be used for capturing digital still images, perform non-linear editing of digital videos.
Both amateur and professional digital FireWire products are available, including synthesizers, digital TVs, entertainment systems, set-top boxes, and many other devices.
It's worth noting that if you don't have an Apple ID, you'll need to create one before downloading the drivers. If you're installing Mac OS 9.1 or later, these drivers are not required. Instead, follow the instructions provided in the Quick Start guide included in the HARMONi package to install FireWire drivers in your system.
The software requirements are simple: built-in FireWire ports or one FireWire PCI card or CardBus card must be installed.
