Heirophant is a multipurpose software tool that offers scanning, telnet, ping and flooding capabilities, providing a complete utility for testing and monitoring network functions.
The scan module is a basic port scanner that comes with an easy-to-use graphical user interface inspired by Team 2600's PortMaster X. It has been considered one of the fastest port scanners ever built for Mac OS X, competing with PortMaster X. However, it is still not as good as nmap. Users can open up to 500 simultaneous connections to scan their target. It is essential to note that too many connections can kill the connection; therefore, users may have to perform some attempts to get the optimal number of connections. However, the choice of 50 simultaneous connections offered by Heirophant is quite good.
The telnet module lets users communicate with a server by typing in the command in the "Input" field and sending it by pressing Return. The server's answer then appears in the significant field at the top. Additionally, the software includes an intelligent system that memorizes the addresses you enter and attempts to guess the targeted address when you start to type one.
Meanwhile, the ping module sends packets to a remote computer, waits for its response, and then gives you the delay. The flood module opens as many connections as the number of ports entered and sends data to vulnerable ports, attempting to crash the remote computer. This will have no effect on non-vulnerable ports as data will not be received.
Furthermore, the software comes with a proxy module that allows users to enter a proxy/sock server address, which can be used in the telnet module. In terms of improvements, the Flood module has been improved while the Proxy module has been added, and some bugs have been fixed in this release of software.
In conclusion, Heirophant is an impressive and well-designed software with useful network utility modules. Its speed and usability make it a must-have for anyone who needs an efficient network utility tool.
