Hephaestus is a game construction kit designed for creating computer role-playing games. It is a software that allows users to build and customize their own gaming experience.
Perhaps you've always dreamed of making your own RPG game but weren't sure how to go about it. With Hephaestus 2, the process has never been easier. You have the freedom to choose your own art and sounds or utilize the standard libraries provided. Additionally, you can create "static" maps with the map editor or use code to make unique mazes and dungeons for players to explore.
If you need inspiration or want to see what Hephaestus is capable of, look no further than Umbra. This post-holocaust horror adventure is included with Hephaestus 2 and features a world where the Great Old Ones have returned to reclaim Earth. Survivors must cower in hidden towns or give themselves over to madness and worship of inhuman gods. You begin the game alone and helpless, but can rise up to strike back and reclaim the planet for humanity.
To utilize Hephaestus 2, you'll need a display with a minimum of 1024x768 resolution and 16-bit color depth. Additionally, you'll need to have the Java Runtime Environment (JRE) version 1.3 or later installed on your machine. Finally, it's worth noting that the release includes a minor bug fix that addresses an issue in Sun's JDK on Linux. The bug does not appear to affect the Blackdown JDK or any other platform.
