Hobbitalarm is a notification tool to monitor the Hobbit/Big Brother system. Its objective is to function as a client-side software that alerts users when there are any issues detected by the monitoring system.
To receive information about the Hobbit state, hobbitalarm polls the Hobbit / Big Brother Web frontend on a configurable, regular basis. It is easy to get started with hobbitalarm. Users can copy hobbitalarm (x86, gcc4) to their path, such as the example /usr/local/bin, or compile it for their platform using the command "gcc -o hobbitalarm hobbital.c" and then copy the resulting binary to their path.
In this release, hobbitalarm is in a very early development state. At the moment, there is no build environment. However, it compiles with gcc on Linux and an OpenWatcomC Project is attached to the source code for Windows users. This release includes the resulting binaries, early documentation, and configuration examples.
It's important to note that this software is currently tagged pre-alpha since it lacks essential functions, such as process detaching or system tray functionality for Windows users. However, the basic notification functionality is working as intended.
One limitation to this software is that it cannot reach Htaccess protected Hobbit / Big Brother Web frontends because no authentication has been implemented yet. Overall, hobbitalarm is a promising software that aims to serve as a reliable notification client for the Hobbit / Big Brother monitor.
