HttpCapture is a software that serves as a wrapper for pcap packet-capture library. Its main function is to capture and analyze network traffic, specifically HTTP traffic.
The core of the application is minimalistic, and a collection of plugin libraries are employed for packet processing. HttpCapture relies heavily on the USI++ library, which is included within the download. It is important to mention that the application's existence relies heavily on the USI++ library, special thanks to the USI++ author for their contribution.
HttpCapture is an extensible application that allows sniffing, decoding, and display of network traffic. The core driver of the software has no special logic, and each plugin is designed to execute a different capturing methodology. Any user can update or improve the application with a minimum amount of effort.
At present, the included plugins are designed to capture, decode, and display the following protocols: HTTP Realm Authentication, Jabber Logins, FTP Logins, POP3 Logins, and CVS (pserver) Logins. In the latest release, some new and exciting features have been added to the application. These updates include Jabber sniffer implementation, POP3 sniffer implementation, CVS login sniffer (pserver) implementation, FTP sniffer implementation, a man page, and updated class file documentation.
Overall, HttpCapture is an amazing tool that helps in sniffing, analyzing, and displaying network data. Its extensible and user-friendly design makes it an ideal software for developers who are searching for a simple yet powerful packet capturing tool.
