HyperNext Player is a free software tool for running HyperNext stacks.
Users can easily place controls such as buttons and adjust the scripts to their liking with the use of the Script Editor, which is easy to navigate. Stacks are typically quite small, only approximately 50k, and require the use of a HyperNext Player in order to run. It is worth noting that stacks are also completely platform-independent and can be run on Windows, Macintosh OS X (Mactel, G3, G4, G5), and OS 9 without any issues.
Key features of the HyperNext Player include a visually based software creation system, cross-platform capabilities that support both Windows and Macintosh systems, as well as the inclusion of the essential tools needed for the creation of cross-platform software. The software includes an English-like programming language, an untyped language for faster development, with over 1000 functions and commands. Additionally, the software includes Graphic canvases, NotePlayer for MIDI music, Sprite animation for game programming, and Image banks for image storage and manipulation.
The software also features a vast array of commands for text processing and maths, easy networking for sending and receiving messages and data, a serial port for comms with GPS, model trains, and other hardware, as well as easy-to-use neural network technology. Users can also localize stacks or applications for other languages such as Japanese easily.
The software is expandable via plugins, which can be developed with HyperNext Developer, and users can distribute their software as stacks, applications, or plugins with ease. To operate this software, users would require a processor speed of 100 MHz or higher and 35 MB of free memory. Overall, the software is an excellent tool for individuals who are looking to create their software with ease and enjoy cross-platform capabilities.
