IconLab allows users to utilize professional graphics software, including Photoshop, as their icon editor.
Another impressive feature of IconLab is its ability to import Mac OS X icon files directly into Photoshop. Furthermore, IconLab correctly pre-multiplies the RGB channels, ensuring the icon appears in Photoshop the same way it does on the Finder.
IconLab registers itself with Photoshop's import/export system, allowing you to drag .icns files onto Photoshop and work with them as you would any other image format. Additionally, when exporting an icon, the alpha channel of the image generates a high-quality mask. As a result, you can go directly from a complex multi-layer image to export a flattened icon file in a single step. Automatically resizing images also facilitates working at a higher resolution than the final icon file.
IconLab has a 7-day trial, but registering removes the watermark that appears post-evaluation period. Lastly, the plugin requires Photoshop 7.0 or later, and Photoshop Elements 2.0 or later to function.
