ICOnvert is a software service menu designed for the purpose of converting Windows icon files ( *.ico) into other formats.
The first entry, "Extract PNGs," extracts PNGs as SomeDir/SomeIcon-WxH.png. For example, BlueMoon/BlueMoon-16x16.png, BlueMoon/BlueMoon-32x32.png, etc. This feature makes it easy to extract PNGs in different sizes.
The second entry, "Extract PNGs grouped by size," extracts PNGs as SomeDir/WxH/SomeIcon.png. For instance, MoonIcons/16x16/BlueMoon.png, MoonIcons/32x32/BlueMoon.png, etc. This function groups PNGs based on their size, ensuring easy access and organization.
"Preview in Konqueror" is the third entry, which extracts PNGs to a temporary directory under /tmp, launches a Konqueror window, and deletes the temporary files when that window is closed. This feature makes it easy to preview your icons before saving them.
The fourth entry, "Import into current theme," allows you to import your icons into the current theme. It asks for icon category (apps, devices, etc.) and name and then extracts PNGs into $HOME/.kde/share/icons/[theme]/WxH/[category]/SomeIcon.png. Note that this will overwrite files if you specify the name of an existing icon. This is a "feature" that allows you to replace a certain icon globally. However, it is essential to use caution and backup your original icon set.
ICOnvert service menu allows you to convert multiple icons at once, making the process quick and straightforward. To use it, ensure that you have bash and some core utilities and ImageMagick's "convert" program installed.
The latest version of ICOnvert service menu uses Konqueror instead of Kuickshow. This update makes it even more user-friendly and accessible. Overall, ICOnvert service menu is a must-have for anyone who works with icons in Konqueror.
