IDesk provides desktop icons for users.
In addition to its practical functionality, Idesk also offers some cool eye-candy that adds a touch of visual appeal to your desktop. The icons themselves can be either PNG or SVG files, although there are some known issues with librsvg's usage of some advanced SVG files.
Here are some key features of Idesk:
- Execution of multiple shell commands
- Completely configurable actions
- PNG image support
- Image scaling (although SVG support was removed in version 0.6)
- Xft anti-aliased fonts
- Pseudo-transparency
- Shadowed fonts
- Snap to grid icon placement
- Only show caption on mouseover
- Automatic background updating with Esetroot
To use Idesk, you'll need to have xft-config, imlib2-config, and pkg-config installed on your system.
The latest release of Idesk includes some important new options for the Background group, including the ability to set a wallpaper image, define the folder where images are stored, and set the display mode for images. Support for Esetroot pixmap is also included, which allows for a more seamless integration with Fluxbox.
Other changes in this version of the program include an option to auto-align tooltips with icons, as well as measures to prevent multiple instances of Idesk from running on the same DISPLAY. Some older options have also been restricted to use only in the .ideskrc file.
Overall, Idesk is a reliable and customizable way to keep your favorite apps and files at your fingertips. With its wealth of features and recent updates, it's definitely worth checking out if you're in the market for a desktop icon manager.
