The Frodis Co. iDropper is a client software designed for uploading files through FTP.
A common use case for iDropper is commercial printers who typically receive a high volume of files from customers every day. Before iDropper, this involved handling a plethora of CD-ROM discs delivered through conventional shipping channels or explaining the FTP file transfer process using standard FTP clients, which can be tedious. With iDropper, however, no explanation of the FTP process is required. Instead, the administrator at the printer's location can simply use iDropper to configure a droplet for the customer, which is then delivered to the customer via email. The customer then copies the droplet to their desktop and effortlessly drags and drops files and folders onto the desktop icon to complete the file delivery.
But iDropper doesn't stop there. It excels in delivering an incredible user experience by offering a lot of post-delivery features. For instance, droplets can be configured to send you an email message after the delivery, letting you know that the files have been uploaded to your server. Additionally, droplets can collect information about the job (Job Info) and deliver that information along with the files. Moreover, users can create custom forms that are presented to the end-user when files are ready to be uploaded.
Web scripting also takes this functionality to the next level. After delivery, droplets can POST to a web server like a web form would in a browser. Any number of fields can be defined and POSTed. The names of the files are POSTed as well as the job info file location. A server-side script such as PHP, JSP, ASP, etc., that receives the POST can perform nearly any action. It can move files, unzip them, update a database, send an email to an account rep, etc. The application of custom scripts can fit into any workflow.
To use iDropper, you require Mac OS X 10.4 for the Configurator, and Mac Droplets require Mac OS X 10.3.9 to be installed. The software is also available for a 30-day trial period.
