IkeWiki is an innovative Wiki software, offering a fresh approach to online collaboration and information sharing. With its unique features and user-friendly interface, IkeWiki is a great tool for teams, organizations, and individuals looking for a new way to manage their content and engage their audience.
Despite similarities in appearance and behavior to Wikipedia/MediaWiki, the IkeWiki system design significantly differs from other wikis. The software harnesses Semantic Web technologies like RDF(S) and OWL using the Jena RDF store. This software's purpose is to be an easy-to-use, collaborative tool that guides knowledge engineers through the process of formalizing domain knowledge, making it accessible by other Semantic Web applications.
The workflow of using IkeWiki involves starting with a set of pages from Wikipedia and modifying them accordingly, associating types with pages and links between pages gradually. Consequently, users increasingly formalize the knowledge represented in the Wiki. With a final step, these contents can be downloaded as RDF or OWL ontology for use in other applications.
Browser compatibility is not the primary focus of IkeWiki, so it is not intended for use in production environments yet. The recommended development platform is Mozilla Firefox 1.5, with other browsers having compatibility worked on for future releases. IkeWiki has certain requirements, including Apache Tomcat 5.5.12, JDK 1.5.0, and PostgreSQL 7.4.
This version of IkeWiki is thoroughly revised, with major changes such as a move to a fully AJAX enabled user interface based on Dojo, an improved knowledge representation mechanism, and a component framework for easier customization.
