Image Cluster is a software that uses Exif data and file number names to copy and rename images.
The inspiration behind Image Cluster came from a personal experience when the creator acquired a new camera that was burning through the same sequence numbers as their previous camera. Their previous solution of creating directories by the first 2 digits of the sequence numbers was no longer viable. Image Cluster solves this issue by extracting the CreateDate and FileNumber exif tags from the images and using that as the basis for a new filename.
However, Image Cluster goes beyond just renaming files. It also creates directories that allow for some minimum tolerance between CreateDate, which is used to cluster images. For the creator, the optimum value seems to be 36 hours, but this is configurable via the command line. This feature is especially useful for occasional photographers who take pictures in bursts, such as for a weekend hangout or vacation.
The software is easy to use and comes with several options. These include setting the target directory for images, dry run mode to preview changes, a help message feature, a separator character that is customizable, and the ability to set the tolerance for image clustering. The program also has a verbose output, making it easy to monitor changes and troubleshoot any issues.
Overall, Image Cluster is a useful tool for managing your image collection. Its features allow you to easily rename, copy and cluster your images, saving you time and effort. While it may be designed with occasional photographers in mind, it is versatile enough to benefit anyone looking for an efficient way of organizing their image collection.
