Imsptool is a command line tool designed to interact with an IMSP server.
The beauty of the LDIF format is that Netscape Messenger and LDAP directory servers such as OpenLDAP use this file format directly. IMSP protocol was created to complement IMAP and store additional mail user agent configuration information such as address books. Despite being supported by just a few mailers like Simeon by Esys Corp. and Mulberry, IMSP protocol is considered obsolete. The ACAP protocol was created to replace IMSP, but it has not caught on yet. X.500/LDAP is becoming the standard way to store large e-mail directories.
Imsptool was developed to provide an easy way to use IMSP address books in Netscape Messenger. Not just that, but it can also be used to migrate IMSP address books to LDAP directories. The tool is compatible with Linux 2.2 and Solaris 2.7. It has also undergone testing and works seamlessly with the Cyrus IMSP server version 1.5a6.
In terms of new releases, the imsptool.c has had bugs with read_literal fixed again, mailing lists have been implemented on import address book, and the rename command has also been made available. Overall, imsptool is a helpful tool that can make work more productive for users while saving time.
