New software designed for dial-up modem users to improve internet startup performance.
The program will automatically exit once the connection has been established. Internet Startup has a range of handy features that make it even more beneficial to users. For example, it's possible to set applications to be hidden after load, and the program can be customised to load your software and dial the connection automatically upon loading.
Other useful features include notifications for both successful and unsuccessful connection attempts for users with internal modems or external modems without a connection status light. Additionally, the software offers background connection, enabling you to dial the connection without seeing the white Remote Access connection dialog.
The latest release of Internet Startup comes with an optional notification for when the connection is established, and when the connection attempt fails, enabling users to receive OS notifications or play a sound of their choice. The software also features a new base group on checkbox and pop-up menu in the group creation dialog, allowing users to base a new group on any other group, including the custom group if one exists.
Users can cancel a connection attempt, and the program will now wait for the connection to close. The software avoids reloading or hiding applications if a connection attempt is retried, detecting and leaving any applications that are already running. However, AppleScripts that load and thereafter quit will be relaunched.
Internet Startup now provides the option to turn off confirmation of deletion of applications and groups. The program also waits for 50 seconds for applications to load when they have been marked to be hidden on load. If the programs have still not been detected, it exists - except when AppleScript applets are present. In such cases, an error message is displayed.
Aliases are automatically resolved when adding applications to the preferences. Further improvements include better and more complete balloon help, while the Preferences dialog will no longer open only partially visible on smaller monitors.
The software has undergone a lot of optimisation and tidying to reduce its size and prevent it from crashing on older machines. However, one limitation under 68k is that the Reveal button in the Preferences dialog will only operate on one selected application at a time. This limitation can be removed with further improvements.
Overall, Internet Startup offers a range of excellent features for dial-up modem users, making it a valuable utility to have on hand.
