The IP and Ethernet testing tool is a network testing software add-on that enables thorough testing of appliances and applications through an Ethernet bridge.
One of the key advantages of IET is that there is no need to reconfigure equipment. All that is needed is to insert a PC with two NICs "on the cable" to get started. The tool works on the ethernet level with a bridge, and has the ability to detect network error conditions such as packet loss, delay, transmission errors (IP, UDP layer), and bandwidth restraints.
IET comes with a kernel driver for low-CPU overhead packet processing, and a control application for configuring the driver engine. It also features a user-friendly GUI and a CLI, with the option of saving configuration to a text file.
The latest release of IET includes several bug-fixes and enhancements, such as fixed support for matching ethernet packets based on the protocol, additional matches for ICMP, TCP and UDP protocols (ICMP Type, TCP/UDP src port and dst port), and the ability to corrupt IP and UDP packets with optional checksum update. However, IET has entered feature-freeze, meaning that until version 1.0.0 is released, there will only be bugfixes.
