IPAportal is a user interface that allows users to query the IPA catalog. This web-based application is easy to use and provides quick access to important information.
For installation, users should ensure that they have all software dependencies outlined in the README document, including a PostgreSQL server with an IPA data store. The installation process includes several steps. First, users should extract the portal archive to a temporary directory. Then, as a super-user, they should change into the directory and install the IPA Portal modules. Next, users should choose a location to hold the IPA portal configuration file, which will contain database credentials for accessing the IPA data store. This file should not be placed in a location that can be served by Apache and must be named ipaportal.conf. By default, the IPA modules will search for this file in /etc, but users can put it any location they prefer, provided they provide that location in the Apache configuration.
After choosing a location on the portal web server to hold the IPA portal pages, users should copy the contents of the temporary directory to that location. Then, Apache needs to be configured to use the mod_psp handler for pages in the directory. Users can find a sample configuration file, httpd-ipaportal.conf.sample, which they should modify if they have installed the IPA pages to a location other than /ipaportal. If users placed the configuration file from the previous step in a location other than /etc, they will need to modify the PythonOption line to include that path. Finally, users should restart Apache for the configuration changes to take effect.
Once installation is complete, users can browse to the URL for the portal pages to start querying the IPA database by typing IP addresses into the text box. In case of any troubleshooting, users should take note of the error messages and check that the portal directory matches the directive in Apache config. They should also verify that the mod_python handler is active for PSP files. If they get a message that the IPA configuration file can't be found, users should check that the location of the ipaportal.conf file matches the location specified in the ipa.portal.conf_dir option in their Apache configuration. Additionally, they should verify that the conf file is readable by the user ID of the Apache HTTPD process.
