"Irssi Quotes System" is an Irssi IRC client script that enables users to display random or specific quotes with easy-to-use commands.
The commands for this system are as follows:
- !quote [id] - displays a quote with a specific id or a random quote if none is given.
- !search - searches for quotes with SQL-style wildcards for strings.
- !whoset - shows the name of the author who created the quote with a specific id.
- !addquote - users can add quotes to the database.
- !db - shows the number of non-deleted quotes currently in the system database.
- /delquote - deletes a quote and marks it as deleted.
- /restore - restores a quote that was previously deleted.
To install the Irssi Quotes System, the user should download it and execute it: mysql -p yourdbname < irssi_quotes.sql. Afterward, they should go to their Irssi scripts directory, which is usually located at ~/.irssi/scripts/.
Next, the user can download irssi_quotes.pl and open it with their preferred text editor. They will need to edit the variables, including the $database = ('yourdbname'), $username = ('dbuser'), and $password = ('dbpass') fields. After making the appropriate changes, they can then save irssi_quotes.pl.
Finally, in the Irssi client, the user should type /script load irssi_quotes.pl to load the script. To ensure that the script is always loaded at startup, the user can place irssi_quotes.pl in the ~/.irssi/scripts/autorun/ directory. If this directory does not exist, they need to create it first.
Recently, the software has undergone updates. The latest release includes the addition of levels for the !addquote command. Users can now choose who can add quotes, limiting it to only oped clients, oped and voiced clients, or everyone. Additionally, the commands must now be written on a #channel since the script no longer listens to query windows.
