iTunes Monitor is a utility software that enables users to share their iTunes 4.1 music between multiple Macs. It works by monitoring iTunes and providing a solution for seamless sharing.
To use iTunes Monitor, you must have the iTunes application named "iTunes," and your music files need to have one of the following extensions: .wav, .wma, .sn2, .mov, .moov, .mp3, .aiff, .m4a, or .m4p. The utility cannot associate a shared music file with a given remote user, and it cannot distinguish between files being accessed locally versus those being shared. Additionally, iTunes Monitor cannot display the name of a file that is being received, and it may not work properly if another application is being used to proxy music streams over the Internet (a limitation that only applies to iTunes 4.0.1).
Because lsof, the UNIX tool at the core of this application, doesn't reliably return complete path names, iTunes Monitor must scan your Music folder when it encounters a new file. This can take a few seconds after launching before it displays information about the files and sockets iTunes is using.
In this latest release of iTunes Monitor, support has been added for multiple music folders, and several bug fixes have been implemented, including improvements to responsiveness and fixes for memory leaks and compatibility with Panther.
To use iTunes Monitor, you need to have iTunes 4.0.x or later and Mac OS X.2 or later installed on your system. If you're looking for a way to monitor your iTunes activity and get more detailed information about who's connected and what's being shared, iTunes Monitor is an excellent option.
