LVE is software for precise editing of MPEG1/2 videos with frame and GOP accuracy.
The software engine for cutting is based on a self-coded frame-server or demuxer that works based on a special frame-index for exact seeking to every frame. It uses "libmpeg2" of "mpeg2dec-0.3.1"-package to decode video data while audio data is decoded with the assistance of "ffmpeg-0.4.x". Besides, LVE can utilize external audio files encoded in "WAV"-format.
For LVE, a min. 500 MHz CPU with at least 128MB RAM is required, while decoding with audio needs more speed and up to 1 GHz CPU is recommended. It needs XFRee86 4.x with xv-support running with a color depth greater than or equal to 16-Bit. It requires libSDL-1.2.x from www.libsdl.org, newer libqt-Stuff (>= 2.04) (checking the Linux distribution), and the source-package must be extracted in "/usr/local" since LVE has hard coded directory names (at the moment?).
Moreover, it is important to check if "./lve/ffmpeg" links to the ffmpeg-directory (default is "./lve/ffmpeg -> /usr/local/ffmpeg-0.4.x"). For this release, lvedump/lve have new options "-ts" and "-pes" to produce TS-Stream (=DVB transport stream) or PES-stream as output, alongside some minor bug fixes.
In conclusion, LVE is a comprehensive software for frame and GOP accurate editing of MPEG1/2 video files. It supports various MPEG formats, reliable cutting engine, fast decoding of video and audio data, and external audio files compatibility. LVE has some system requirements to note, and users have to check the links between the software and the directories. Additionally, this release adds new output options and minor bug fixes.
