The Java SQL Admin Tool enables the management of a Relational Database Management System (RDBMS) through the use of Java and JDBC, providing greater control and efficiency for users.
One of the standout features of Admin is the ability to have a comprehensive tree view of the RDBMS or choose a single instance to view its metadata. The software also allows for the creation, modification, and deletion of tables as well as the creation of indices on a table.
Admin's dynamic form feature simplifies data entry, while guided queries make it easy to extract and export data from a table. It also includes a code generator for Java developers who will enjoy the OO relational wrapper and swing GUI. Additionally, the software enables the user to import/export data from one DBMS to another.
To run Admin effectively, users need JDK 1.4.x, a RDBMS, and a JDBC-Driver. Furthermore, the user must add specific libraries to their CLASSPATH including JDOM, Martin Newsteads MSeries, Calendarbean, and POI for exporting data to XLS.
This new version boasts of a new tool called Data Selection, which allows for complex data selections for users who are not familiar with Joins and other intricacies of RDBMS. The tool has been in production for three years and can now be launched via Java Webstart. Overall, Admin is a reliable SQL Admin Tool that provides a user-friendly experience for beginners and developers alike.
