Jsfirewall is a software solution that enhances desktop PC security by providing reliable protection for systems with only one network card.
One of the great things about jsfirewall is that it's easy to administrate. It uses the program "dialog", which can be used on the X server or on the console. Advanced features are built in, such as the ability to save or view logging files, tune the logging and kernel parameters, and save and load (or delete) generated firewall templates. Additionally, there is optional support for an additional portrange as the default and you can give one command owner for every chosen port.
If you're worried about the installation process, don't be. All you need to do is unpack the tar ball (tar xzf jsfirewall-0.7.1.tar.gz), open the file jsfirewall.conf and change any necessary settings, and then run ./install.sh in the console. The program offers three options: install, update, or cancel.
There are a number of exciting new features available in this release. For example, the config section has been completely rewritten and you can now edit in the "config" menu directly like in the "global" menu. jsfirewall now supports OpenVPN and can generate an OpenVPN styled firewall script. Additionally, help can now support all languages, all sections of the code have been split into scripts, and the program is now faster and open for other GUI languages and iptables based generator scripts. Finally, note that the LANG variable in 0.7.1 has been renamed to LANGU.
