Julie is a highly customizable music jukebox that can play MP3 and Ogg formats.
Initially created as an MP3 player for parties, Julie's design goals were simple. Julie was meant to be easy to use, even when tipsy, by using glue code to make existing tools work together. Flexibility was crucial for networks and multiple users. Julie was ideal for users with large music collections, as it could easily find a specific song in collections up to 20GB.
Julie utilizes simple and clean graphical interfaces, enabling users to perform a text search of songs, which can then be added directly to the playlist. The playlist provides a preview of the next songs that will be played for you to see, add, delete, or rearrange the order. The random selection maintains a level of intelligence, but there is a 'banish' function for those songs you never want to hear again. Additionally, there is a delay within which a song will not be repeated.
In the future, the developers of Julie hope to add a more intelligent song rating system. Julie also allows users to adjust the volume for each song, which is stored in the database so that the main volume level remains unchanged. Overall, Julie is an excellent jukebox that has everything you could ask for in a music player, and it is highly recommended for large music collections.
