JWIRC is a versatile java IRC applet that can be accessed through a web page. It lets you chat across multiple channels simultaneously, transfer files using DCC, and utilize smile-images and menus.
The applet's appearance is completely customizable, with webmasters able to change colors, create menus, set usage restrictions for certain fields and commands, develop language packs for various countries, and adjust the display of smileys to images. All parameters for the applet are fully covered in its documentation. The banner loader module allows for the insertion of advertisements in customizable intervals and is only available on the plus version of JWIRC.
In order to operate the Java applet on a computer, a Java plugin of version 1.3 or higher from either Sun or Microsoft is required. However, most Windows operating systems already have Java pre-installed, except for Windows XP, which requires the installation of a service pack, or the setup of Sun JRE plugging.
The Java applet comprises two files with packed *.class Java files- jwirc.cab and jwirc.jar. To set up the IRC applet on a website, these files can be copied and linked to the HTML code of the page.
If safety is a concern, users can receive a digital signature from their company and then use it to sign the applet with their certificate. When used in conjunction with an ircd server, this applet provides companies with a simple yet reliable link to their clients and branches.
Overall, the IRC applet provides a powerful and user-friendly way to engage in multi-channel conversations and share files while offering plenty of customization options.
