This software allows press agencies and news wires to use NewsML for news monitoring and article creation in XML, with the ability to manage related formats and send articles to editors via email, FTP, and exports to prepress tools like NITF and InDesign.
One feature that particularly impressed me was the offline text editing mode for remote correspondents and freelance journalists. This mode allows for direct connection and transfer to newspapers to send formatted articles via integrated FTP and SMTP clients. Additionally, the editorial workflow uses individual baskets and baskets by service: individual sending, sending to the service, reception, interception, and a log of editorial transmissions.
Text attributes and formatting options include bold, italics, underline, superscript, and multiple subtitles. The management of auto typography is a breeze as this software allows for no breaking spaces around punctuation, automatic French quotation marks, and suppression of successive spaces. The text editing and formatting help includes uppercase/lowercase conversion, special characters, and automatic dialog forms.
The software also comes with advanced search and replace options, notes, and comments about the story (out of the article text) and presented as bookmarks inside the text of the story. Integrated News monitoring for Press Agencies' news using NewsML format (AFP, Reuters)- news readers is also available.
Additionally, the software allows for launching external applications and executing an internet contextual search such as searching for synonyms or searching on Google. It has an automatic save feature for the current story at periodic and customizable time intervals with a word spell checker.
This software also has some great photo-related features. For example, you can directly import RTF and Word files and it will automatically fill the Caption and Credit fields from corresponding IPTC fields of photos used in the story. There is also automatic indexation of IPTC keywords from attached photos.
With the ability to customize the interface and the behavior of the software to your preferences, this software is truly remarkable. Direct export of a story to RTF or PDF format is possible, as well as HTML and XSL-FO exports using XSL transformations. Exports to prepress formats like NewsML, NITF, InDesign, XPress, tagged text, RSS 2.0 or other specialized editorial systems are also supported. Overall, this software is an excellent publishing solution, and I recommend giving it a try.
