KAtoms is a KDE desktop software that emulates a turn-based multiplayer strategy game from Amiga's old era.
The latest version of KAtoms comes with improved features such as AI players, irregular board shapes, and a scalable user interface. In this game, players take turns placing atoms on the board to cause chain reactions and explosions that convert enemy atoms to their own color. The objective of the game is to overwhelm the board with your atoms.
To play the game, click on the grid to place atoms. Different boxes can hold different numbers of atoms depending on their position on the grid. Once a box has too many atoms, it will explode and add an atom to each adjacent box. If the neighboring boxes exceed their stable limit, they will also explode, leading to chain reactions that are key to winning the game.
The winner is the last player left with atoms on the grid. Each time a box of atoms explodes, the adjacent boxes are converted to the color of the current player. The game has two styles of play: normal mode and tournament mode. In normal mode, players take turns until only one player remains. In tournament mode, the grid is reset to start a new round when a player is knocked out.
It's worth noting that reactions happen in parallel which makes it difficult to predict the result of a large reaction. However, the unpredictability of the game only adds to the fun and challenge. If you're looking to challenge yourself, KAtoms is a great option. Download it today to try the game out for yourself!
