Kdetv is a KDE software for GNU/Linux that provides the ability to view television on your system.
To see how much kdetv has improved recently, you can try a release, grab a snapshot or download the latest source code out of SVN. There is a lot of work going into the development of kdetv, and it finally seems to be paying off.
KWinTV, the predecessor to kdetv, was plagued by problems and limitations that were hard to fix. For that reason, the developers decided to start from scratch and build a completely new application. Since its remake, there have been significant improvements to the application's stability and features.
Note that kdetv only supports KDE3. The plug-in architecture makes it possible to extend the application in many different ways, and there are already several plug-ins available. These include an XVideo plug-in, an OSS mixer plug-in, and several channel file plug-ins. However, some of these plug-ins still require work, and there are many more waiting for implementation.
If you want to contribute to the project, one way is to create a plug-in. The developers are continuously working to improve kdetv's functionality and user experience.
