KickPIM is a convenient panel applet designed to provide efficient editing and easy access to the KDE addressbook.
I was particularly impressed with the applet's ability to support photos in the contact list, which I had previously added to Kopete. Implementing this feature was a breeze, thanks to the component architecture for the contact list display (created by Richard Smith), which allowed me to design items in various styles, including images, text, vboxes, hboxes, and spacers. I was thrilled to have been able to port this architecture to KickPim as well.
Unfortunately, I did not receive any response from KickPim's author, and I was reluctant to create a separate code base or branch. Therefore, I made the patches available here, with the hope that they will be merged back into the author's codebase in the future. While the new display code for contacts may appear unsightly, or even exhibit some regression, any feedback or style ideas that I receive will be used to address them accordingly.
To make the KABC Photos feature visible, simply consult the application's preferences. All in all, I found KickPIM to be a useful and practical tool that makes managing contacts and emails an effortless endeavor.
