Kio-clucene is a search engine software for KDE that enables indexed searching capabilities.
Some of the key features of Kio-clucene include its ability to search for full text content, mimetype, metainfo, mod. dates, and path names. The software also enables multifield queries, which can be performed using the search-dialog. Kio-clucene can index local files, remote files, archives, read-only data stored on CDs, DVDs, and also text inside images using OCR programs like gocr.
Kio-clucene is built to be seamlessly integrated within KDE framework. It can be accessed from Konqueror location-bar, Kicker "Run command", Alt+F2 "Run command", and any app that uses the openfile dialog. For instance, from kpdf, one can open the file-dialog and search for PDFs very fast, just like Adobe Acrobat Reader does.
The search results in Kio-clucene are displayed using standard KDE-listviews. However, the software does not provide kpart for the display/sorting of the results, unlike Beagle. Although instantaneous file indexing is not provided by the indexer, any KDE application can use DCOP to request the indexing of any URL.
Kio-clucene is Scons-enabled, which means it makes use of the scons build and install system. The software requires clucene-0.8.13 and kde 3.4 - kdelibs-devel to function properly.
The recent release of Kio-clucene fixes compilation issues, provides improved builds with kde.py and lucene.py, and fixes a bug on queries with empty lists of indexes. If you're looking for a reliable search engine for KDE, Kio-clucene is a great option to consider.
