Konvert2Ogg is a sound conversion software for audio book listeners. It is KDE4-based and has been designed to meet specific audio needs.
One of Konvert2Ogg's main features is its ability to batch-convert audio files. This means that you can convert multiple files at once without the need to process them individually. Additionally, Konvert2Ogg offers a tool that allows you to split large audio files into smaller chunks, making it easier to listen to on portable audio players. You can also reduce the audio file's quality to save disk space.
However, Konvert2Ogg is not a general-purpose audio converter. It is specifically designed for audio books and is not suitable for music files as it doesn't preserve tags, and it is not an audio tag editor. It is also not an audio book downloader or file-sharing program.
If you have an audio book in a format that is incompatible with your portable player, you can use Konvert2Ogg to convert it to Ogg Vorbis or MP3. Similarly, if you have a one-hour audio file that you want to listen to in 10-minute segments, Konvert2Ogg can split the file for you. You can also compress high-quality audio files to lower quality to fit more content on your portable media device.
Konvert2Ogg can also be used for less common use cases such as appending a few seconds of silence to the end of every file for players that have trouble playing audio files till the end. It can also re-encode damaged audio files and doesn't handle tags. Still, you can use it to convert music files and fill in the tags later with another tool.
The software's system requirements are that you have KDE 4.x installed. Konvert2Ogg has been updated recently with a complete redesign of the code and the Graphical User Interface (GUI). It now supports MPlayer and SoX, making it easy to decode any format. You can also configure settings for quality, bitrate, and sample rate. Additionally, you can prepend or append silence and split files into shorter chunks. However, there is no fancy wheel widget at the moment.
