Kopete-anyremote is a plugin for the Kopete software that enables users to utilize their Bluetooth-enabled mobile devices as a remote control for managing Kopete.
Setting up the plugin is just as easy. First, open the "Configure plugins" window in Kopete and select the "Anyremote Plugin" option. Then, check both the "Dump status changes" and "Dump incoming messages" boxes. Optionally, check "Dump outgoing messages" if you want to receive them on your phone. Finally, run anyremote or kanyremote with the "-f /path/to/kopete.cfg" command. The file kopete.cfg, which is supplied with anyremote and kanyremote starting from v2.11, is used for this purpose.
AnyRemote is designed to provide wireless Bluetooth remote control service for KDE. Unlike other Bluetooth remote control programs, it is not limited to SonyEricsson or JSR-82-capable phones. Developed as a thin communication layer between a Bluetooth-capable phone and Linux, it can be configured to manage any software. AnyRemote is a console application, but it also has GUI front-ends for Gnome and KDE. It supports Bluetooth, infrared, and cable connections, and can work through a Bluetooth connection with a Java client written for JSR82-capable phones. Additionally, it can work through a Wi-Fi connection if the phone supports Wi-Fi, accept incoming connections from a network, and act as an HTTP server with its web interface feature. It has limited support for Bemused clients.
The requirements for using this plugin are Kopete and AnyRemote. The latest release of AnyRemote has improved on the previous versions by storing all temporary files in the user's home directory instead of /tmp. Overall, Kopete-anyremote is a versatile and useful plugin for anyone who wants to harness the power of their Bluetooth-enabled cell phone to control their Kopete messaging client remotely.
