Kopete Away Message Updater is a script that quickly updates your away message within Kopete messenger to keep your contacts informed.
The away messages are by default defined in ~/.kopete-away-msgs. Each line can either contain a comment, which starts with a #, or a flag message. The flags define properties to each away message, and they are declared at the start of the line, beginning and ending with a %. Some of the supported flags include determining the amount of time for the message to appear using [0-9]*[smhd] syntax, showing the message only when you're away, using a command line output as the away message, showing the contents of a file, among other things. The script also has flags to show messages less than normal times, show them even more less or show them sometimes.
To determine your online status and the corresponding flag message, you need to have the Web Presence plugin enabled. The script reads the file ~/.webstatus.xml by default, but you can adapt the variable below if you store the file somewhere else. The script won't do anything if you're offline or partially away.
There may be instances where the process of retrieving the current webstatus may not be reliable, and you may turn back to online after being set on Away in a short time. If this doesn't happen in about 10 seconds after the status change, you may consider the status change as successful.
The script also has an example ~/.kopete-away-msgs file that shows its various capabilities like showing uptime for one minute, picking random lines from a text file using fortune mode, and showing each line of a text file. There's also a flag message that tells a little story when you're away, but it's important to mind the n and x flags to prevent starting in the middle of the story.
The new release has various bug fixes and added features like the ability to query the online/away status directly from Kopete (DCOP), a fortune mode, and better efficiency by first checking the online/away status before making any command calls. Overall, my experience with this script has been amazing, and I would highly recommend it to any Kopete user.
