KopyShop is a KDE software designed for easy paper copying. It offers a simple interface and minimal features, allowing users to quickly copy a sheet of paper.
Technically, KopyShop uses the SANE and KPrinter to communicate with the scanning and printing devices. It also has the added functionality of being able to save or load image files, as well as adjusting the input and output resolutions and devices (the latter of which is done through the KDE printer dialog).
To use KopyShop, there are a few requirements, such as having a running KDE 3 (tested on gentoo, kde3.5), the sane-backends installed, a configured and working SANE device, and an output device that is supported by KPrinter. If you're installing from source, you'll need all the necessary components to compile a KDE application and the header files for SANE.
There are some limitations to KopyShop, which include warning users not to start the program when the scanning device is not ready or risk facing endless waits. Additionally, the physical size of the scanner should be roughly the same as the printer (usually A4), and the input and output resolution should be the same for optimal results. File loading, saving, and printing operations with a loaded file are not well-tested, and some error/status messages may be missing. The German translation is also not functioning correctly.
This latest release of KopyShop includes a new GUI, a new preview feature, the ability to crop before printing, centered selection areas on the page, and numerous bug fixes. The developers also opted to use external libkscan instead of including it in KopyShop. Overall, KopyShop is a useful tool for those looking for a simpler way to copy documents, but it may have some limitations depending on your specific hardware and needs.
