KOSD is a minimalist KDE software that functions in the background and displays a small on-screen display upon receiving input from button presses.
Additionally, KOSD promises to bring more actions in future releases, thus making it a comprehensive OSD tool. It is also pretty simple to install. All you need to do is run the command - ./configure make make install (as root) - and you are done! Using KOSD is equally simple. Firstly, ensure that KMix is running, then select KOSD from your K-Menu or just run KOSD from the command line. Type 'kosd - -help' to see what options are available.
The KOSD software has strict requirements and requires you to have a KDE 3.x installed. However, the features it offers are totally worth the requisites. In the latest release, KOSD has fixed a bug in Xinerama handling, adding even more precision to the already impressive software. There is also a new feature to select the screen on which to place the OSD. Overall, the KOSD program is an excellent OSD tool, and you won't be disappointed.
