This software is a KDE user interface for Cscope, allowing users to easily access its database and search for symbols and functions within their code.
Unlike most IDEs that focus on write/compile/debug cycle, KScope places emphasis on source code editing and analysis. This software package is built around a powerful code-navigation mechanism that allows users to run queries on their code. This feature is particularly useful when analysing large C projects such as the Linux kernel.
KScope has a range of query options including finding all references to a symbol, finding the definition of a symbol, finding all functions called by or calling to a function, finding an EGrep pattern and finding all files which include some file. These queries are efficiently handled by an underlying Cscope process that KScope feeds queries into, and then parses its output into result lists.
Users can select items in those lists to open an editor at the matching line. It is important to note that most IDEs only specialise in object-oriented languages and offer little help to C programmers. However, KScope is designed for C programming, and as such is a must-have for programmers working on large C projects such as the Linux kernel.
