This software is a delay line granulator that includes pitch shifting, feedback, panning and freezing capabilities.
KTGranulator is a free delay line granulator that's available as a VST effect plugin with custom editor, as well as a Mac OS X Audio Unit. It was created to explore building VST effect plugins and using the VSTGUI library, and it was inspired by the great DLGranulator effect in Ross Bencina's AudioMulch.
So, how does it work? Incoming (mono) sound is automatically fed into a delay line, from which small pieces of various durations and at different moments in the past are selected. Each of these pieces is then transposed, amplified, and enveloped to create a unique grain. Additionally, each grain is randomly panned, and the entire mix is sent out to a stereo output stream.
One of the most useful features of KTGranulator is its feedback option, which allows the grain output to be sent back into the delay line. Additionally, the delay line can be frozen, which means that the grains are only taken from what is currently stored in the delay line.
Overall, KTGranulator is a unique and innovative granulator VST plugin that's definitely worth trying out. Its easy-to-use interface and customizable settings make it great for anyone looking to add some unique texture and depth to their sound.
