Kuroolito is a software that functions as a Portage browser on KDE. It enables users to easily navigate and manage Portage packages within the KDE environment.
For example, under "media", you'll find subcategories such as "sound", "tv", "radio", or "video". If you want to discover which audio players gentoo offers, simply click on the main category "media", then on the subcategory "sound", and you'll get a list of all packages that belong to "media-sound".
Kuroo also features a powerful filter mechanism that is both beginner-friendly and advanced-user-friendly. You can choose from package views such as "All Packages", "Installed Packages", or "Updates" and then enter the desired keyword(s) into the filter line located in the top right corner. The system searches for matches in both package names and descriptions, and if successful, the filter line turns green to indicate a hit. Conversely, if no matches are found, the filter line turns red to indicate a miss. To clear the filter, simply click the "clear filter" button.
The all-new package inspector offers easy access to package-specific version and use-flag settings. Kuroo's progress bars keep you up-to-date on how far the installation process has progressed, while the emerge and configuration histories keep track of emerged/unemerged packages and configuration files that were changed. Additionally, the emerge queue enables you to see which packages are currently being installed.
Lastly, Kuroo's use-flag editor within the package inspector makes it easy even for particular versions to change use-flags. In summary, Kuroolito is an excellent tool for anyone using KDE Portage.
