leDDer is a XMMS plugin that manages LEDs on a LPT port.
The leDDer project comprises two parts: hardware and software. The hardware part can be viewed at xplsisnjasp, which is a common schema that illustrates how to connect LEDs to LPT. Although the project creator intends to make a genuine light music device, his limited knowledge in electronics is a hindrance. On the other hand, the software part, which includes the kernel driver and XMMS plugin, can be downloaded from the official website. Should you encounter any issues or have suggestions, ideas, or proposals, the creator encourages you to contact him.
To install leDDer, you must follow two steps. Before starting, please take the time to read the COPYING file. The first step is compiling and installing the kernel module by entering the following in the command line: cd ledderdev make. This will result in the module ledderdev.o, which you can use with insmod or modprobe to load. The second step is compiling and installing the XMMS plugin. Before doing this, make sure you have XMMS-devel and gtk-devel sources. Once you have confirmed this, enter the following commands: cd xmms, make, make install. This will produce libledder.so, which is the complete XMMS plugin. Next, make install will copy libledder.so to your home plugin directory. Finally, run XMMS and activate the plugin. You can also modify the divisor in the plugin configuration menu. While the default value of 7 is ideal, feel free to experiment and find what works best for you.
Please note that this is the 0.0.1 version of leDDer, and you may need to change some paths in Makefiles if you encounter errors (since you may have different GTK location than the creator). This will be addressed in upcoming versions. Overall, leDDer is an excellent project for anyone looking to learn more about Open Source software development or Linux programming in general.
