Lfwmail is a perl-based web mail application that offers a lightweight email solution.
Users can access the software securely via https encryption, and HTML mails are converted to ASCII text to ensure maximum security. However, users can still view HTML mail if desired. The code is simple and well-structured, and installation is straightforward, with no need for non-standard modules. Users can run it in mod_perl for fast responses, but even for standard CGI-bin, the response time is impressive.
Although lfwmail doesn't keep track of read or unread emails, there is a small help option available for keeping track of what users have seen and what is new. This feature is suitable for Mozilla, Opera, and MS IE, and depends on JavaScript style objects. The background color of emails that have been clicked on changes, allowing users to know what they've read and what is new. Furthermore, this information is saved between sessions from version 1.5 onwards.
Recently, the new version of lfwmail has made it possible to call lfwmail with uid=xxx in the URL. Overall, lfwmail is a feature-rich, lightweight web-based mail server that most users will find adequate for their needs.
