LGMTray is a lightweight email notification software that sits in the system tray and alerts users of new email in their Gmail account.
Written in C, LGMTray is designed to have very few dependencies, making it easy to build on many systems. At the moment, only an X11 implementation is available, which uses the FreeDesktop.org System Tray Protocol, and the features are pretty limited.
However, LGMTray is an excellent alternative to all other GMail notifiers that either didn't work on Linux or had dependencies that were not available on the user's machine. If you encounter bugs or have suggestions for improvement of the application, feel free to contact the developer.
To use LGMTray, you need to have specific requirements, including libcurl (with OpenSSL support), libxml2, libxpm, and Xlib, which ships with your X installation. After downloading the sample configuration file lgmtray.sample_config, rename it to ~/.lgmtray, and edit it to reflect your username/password and preferences.
Overall, LGMTray is a fantastic application that delivers accurate GMail notifications with ease. With so few dependencies needed, it's a must-have for GMail users on all systems.
