Sailbase is a software that simplifies the preparation and printing of a sail passage plan. The program's main focus is on passage planning, but it also offers several other functionalities.
With the ability to copy waypoints, routes, charts and other important information between databases, users can easily share information with others, or simply transfer data between devices. In addition, the software enables users to upload waypoints and routes to their GPS with ease, making navigation even easier.
The program also features an extensive range of printing facilities, allowing users to print out a range of documents, including waypoints, routes, chart library and crew list. With print preview functionality included, users can check their documents before printing and ensure they look exactly as they should. A printed passage plan can even be generated, which incorporates tidal, weather and crew information for added convenience.
One of the standout features of this software is its fast and easy panning of charts. With a simple right mouse button and 'locator' window, users can quickly navigate charts and pinpoint locations with ease. Taking bearings and distances between any two points is also made easy thanks to the software's cross-hair pointer.
The software also supports real-time GPS tracking, with the ability to integrate with any GPS device that sends the NMEA 0183 $GPRMC sentence. Upload/download functionality is also included, with support for any NMEA compliant GPS, as well as the Furuno and Garmin proprietary protocols.
Planning tools are also included, with unlimited routes and waypoints available for users. With the ability to create a database for any sailing area, users can easily create and edit routes and waypoints, and generate a passage plan with route, ETA and course-to-steer information. Interactive recalculation of course, speed and ETA per route leg is also included, as well as a comprehensive chart library and crew list.
