Licq is a chat client software that supports various protocols and allows simultaneous communication through multiple threads. It is programmed mainly in C++ programming language.
Development of Licq is ongoing, with new features being added regularly while bugs are fixed on an ongoing basis. As a result, updates are made available often. The current version is stable, but as with all software, users should exercise caution when employing it for their needs.
A few requirements must be met for Licq to function efficiently. One essential requirement is POSIX thread (pthreads) final draft support. While most operating systems support pthreads natively, FreeBSD, in particular, does not entirely support the final draft. To build using FreeBSD, users should consult the README.FREEBSD file included in the distribution.
Another crucial requirement is thread-safe X11 libraries. Most operating systems are compatible with this, but if using libc5 under Linux, users may encounter a "Fatal IO Error" when commencing with Licq. In such cases, it is necessary to ensure thread-safe libraries are in use. Also, visit www.xmms.org for more information.
Licq requires Qt 3.0 and its libraries and developement headers. This is a requisite only if the user wants to use the Qt gui plugin, which is highly recommended. Other prerequisites include C++ - a c++ compiler, libstdc++ plus c++ headers, and GNU Make. The latter comes with BSD and Linux; otherwise, it must be installed.
The following packages are mandatory for RPM users: qt (3.0 or greater), libstdc++, gcc-c++, openssl (0.9.5a or greater). On the other hand, if compiling from source, users must install qt-devel, libstdc++-devel, XFree86-devel, Openssl for secure connection support (optional), and GpgMe for GPG support (optional).
