LilyKDE is a toolset that seamlessly integrates the LilyPond music typesetter into KDE.
Installation of the software is straightforward. To get started, make sure to have Kate and KPDF (from KDE 3.5.x), Python - Version 2.x, PyKDE, PyQt, and Pété installed. You should use your operating system's tools to install these prerequisites, if feasible.
Once you've installed the prerequisites, unzip lilykde and enter the 'make install' command to install LilyKDE onto your home directory. You can refer to the Makefile and the README for alternative installation options.
The next step is to launch Kate and enable the Pate plugin, which allows Kate to utilize Python plugins. After enabling Pate, navigate to Settings->Configure Python Plugins and enable LilyPond.
Now, when editing a LilyPond file, you can hit Ctrl+Shift+M for a preview (with clickable notes), or Ctrl+Shift+P for a publishable PDF (without clickable notes but much smaller). LilyKDE, with its easy installation process and useful features, is an excellent tool for anyone looking to incorporate LilyPond into KDE.
